When Hurricane Irma hit, Ernie Betancourt lost power for 21 days. He rolled out his 7,000-watt generator, thinking he was ready.
The switch clicked on. The lights came back. The fridge started running.
But his air conditioner wouldn’t start.
Every time the AC tried to turn on, the generator shut itself off. The red overload light kept blinking. He tried again and again. Same thing. Overload. Shutdown. Repeat.
And whether it’s a big summer storm or a winter ice storm, being without heating or cooling makes a home uncomfortable very fast.
Ernie is a retired electrical engineer, so he looked at the label on his 4-ton Daikin system. That’s when he saw the problem:
The system needed about 104 amps to start,
but only 21 amps to run.
The generator could handle the running power…
but not the big burst of power the AC needed to start.
Ernie realized he had spent a lot of money on backup power…
but it couldn’t do the one thing he needed most during an outage —
keep his home safe and comfortable.
EasyStart Flex reduces your HVAC's power surge by up to 75% - so your generator can actually handle it

Drops your start-up current allowing your
generator to easily start your system.
Install inside or outside your HVAC system, 4
wire wires. Basic tools only. Video guides available.
Portable, whole-house, solar + battery systems. If you have backup power, this makes it work.
Your AC/heat pump tries to start
↓Pulls too much power
↓Generator overloads and shuts down
↓Your family freezes or overheats
Device intercepts the startup signal
↓Learns your system and gradually ramps up power
↓Reducing start-up power by up to 75%
↓Generator handles it smoothly
Heat/AC starts every time
↓No overload, no shutdown
↓Family stays comfortable
↓Generator lasts longer too

And, a fan rated FLA of 1.2A. Before installing the MicroAir soft start, I measured the total inrush current at 211 Amps, which included both the compressor and the fan. Regrettably, I didn't consider just measuring the compressor inrush. Since installing the Soft Start, I haven't rechecked the total inrush. It's been a couple of days since I installed the unit, and today recorded the App's readout. I didn't know what to expect, but was hoping for a 50% drop of the LRA. So, the inrush going from 132A rated to 34.4A, and the run current from 26.4A to 15.8A is very satisfying. I can now make a decision on which generator to buy. I wanted to install the soft start inside of the electrical compartment of the compressor, but had to move the control board to make room the the Micro Air unit. As you can see, there was just enough room to do so. I left the Soft Start input cable intake until I was confident there were no problems. I'll now cut the cable to a more appropriate length. I'm wondering if it's possible to configure the connections so that the fan inrush can also be reduced. Anyway, very happy.Read less

I bought the EZ Start Flex for my home AC so I could use a smaller portable generator to run my home. My 4 ton Trane AC was pulling 119 inrush amps on startup, and the unit dropped that to about 23. Pretty amazing results. The unit is so much quieter on startup too! Shortly after install, unfortunately, there was a failure of a component in the device. Using the bluetooth app I pulled the diagnostic screen and sent the data to Micro Air at 5:45am on a Friday morning. Within 5 minutes I had a text from Matteo, one of the engineers, who identified the issue, called to provide a resolution, and processed a warranty replacement with overnight shipping. Stuff breaks, but how a company handles customer service matters. Installation is very simple and any DIYer can easily handle the install. And support is available to answer any questions. The new design is very small, making installation iinside the AC electrical access panel possible. With the EZ Start I can now run my home on a much smaller generator, more than offsetting the cost of the unit. Great product. Great service. Very happy with my decision to purchase.Read less

The work took me about 90-minutes start to finish. The EasyStart Flex fit nicely under the corner-cover where the electrical components are. This house also has a 22kw Generac backup generator, and it could barely* start the A/C compressor. I couldn't measure the actual load demand but per the data label on the Compressor unit, the LRA current load is 81.4 amps. The image attached here shows two actual load snap shots, post-install, from the (wonderful!) EasyStart App. There are two screen shots. On left, is the EasyStart when it is supplied power from street utilities. The HVAC compressor now draws max of 20.8 amps (!!). On right, is the same EasyStart when it is supplied power from the Home Generator. The compressor now pulls 26.2 amps, a reduction of more than 65% from the rated LRA current load of 81.4 amps. I'm not surprised it's a little higher on geneset (technical reasons for this). Last, and while subjective, I note what others have noted - the compressor seems to run more quietly, post-installation, than it did before install.Read less

Power outages are getting worse every year. Ice storms. Heat waves. Grid failures. Cyberattacks.
The next one could happen tomorrow. Or tonight.
Will your backup power actually work when your family needs it?
Or will you be standing there in the dark, watching that overload light blink, realizing you wasted thousands on a generator that can't do its job?
No. If you're comfortable with basic electrical work (turning off breakers, connecting wires with wire nuts), you can install this yourself in about 2 hours. Video guides walk you through every step, or you can hire an electrician.
Yes. EasyStart works with a variety of backup power solutions - portable generators, whole-house generators, solar systems, and more. It reduces the load your HVAC puts on the power source, so anything can handle it.
Even better. EasyStart actually extends the life of older compressors by reducing startup stress. Works on systems up to 6 tons.
Yes! Even when you're on regular grid power, EasyStart makes your AC start quieter, eliminates light flickering, and protects your compressor. You'll notice the difference immediately.
